JUNE 14th marks the 15th Annual Potomac Celtic Festival at Morven Equestrian Park in Leesburg, Virginia. The Gordon Tent will be present and the Gordon Grill will be open! Bring a dish to share -- the House will provide hamburgers and hot dogs for an all American cookout! Last year we won the Best Clan Tent Award and so we have a bit to live up to, but given our propensity to party, I don't think we have much to worry about.
We have gotten off to an early start this year with two new events! First up was the Lexington Scots Irish Festival on April 12th. David & Lois Todd were joined by several Gordons at the tent and it was a truly nice day. Check out the games report in our upcoming newsletter! Pictured right is the one tent set-up & David Todd-- that is a Scotch Egg he is offering for breakfast!
Barbara Gordon Wray & Lois Todd went to Ararat, Virginia for the very first Laurel Hill Highland Games held at the birthplace of JEB Stuart on April 26th. This small game set in the Blue Ridge Mountains gave us a feeling of the Highlands and we hope that it will continue to grow. More on this game will also be in our forthcoming newsletter!
David & Ferial Gordon were at Southern Maryland on April 26th and Frederick on May 10th. We will post a report from them soon.
AGM is set for July 12th at Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. If you cannot attend you must send in your proxy to be received by July 1st so that your vote will be counted. The proxy will be included in your In The House! which will be mailed in a couple of weeks from the House of Gordon USA. If you have not renewed your membership for 2008 you will not be able to vote in the AGM. If you have any question on your standing, please contact Barbara Wray. Please note that to avoid confusion, we encourage our Virginia members to pay their dues directly to the Virginia Division.
Our Deepest sympathies and our prayers go to Jim Gordon of Waynesboro, and his family, on the death of his wife, Beth, who passed on Wednesday, January 9, 2008.
We won the Celtic Spirt Award at the Richmond Highland Games! The Gordons and the Donnachaidh had the corner again this year and with the Donnachaidh Diner & the Gordon Grill going we had massive amounts of food and drink! We are now known as Ceilidh Corner -- THE place to be at the Richmond Games! Our now famous Virginia Gordon Hospitality was in full force, the tent display looked great and we entertained an overflowing and constantly changing tent full of people!
We won Best Clan Tent at Williamsburg! We had Gordons from Tennessee, North Carolina and Maryland visiting with us. Jeremy Atkinson, son of Lee Atkinson, was up from NC competing in the Grade 4 Jr. Solo piping competitions. He placed 3rd in piobaireachd and 2nd in 2/4 March! Congratulations Jeremy we are so proud of your accomplishment.
Congratulations to Aaron Todd on being named Honor Cadet at the 2007 MCJROTC Advanced Leadership Camp held July 15-21 at MCB Hawaii! Aaron, a rising sophomore at Hermitage High in Henrico County, VA, was one of 90 MCJROTC Cadets from across the USA who participated in the camp The course earned him one high school credit and invaluable lessons in leadership. We are so proud of Aaron coming home with top honors!
Congratulations to Lois Todd who was named MVP at the 2007 AGM! Congratulations also to Morris Gordon who was named Commissioner over the newly created North East Region covering from Maine to Virginia. With this change David Todd has agreed to take over as Convener in Virginia, and Geoff Baker as Events Coordinator for Virginia.
The House of Gordon Virginia has
incorporated a WALL OF HONOR at the Gordon Tent honoring our men and women who have served or are currently serving in one of the branches of the armed services. We also have a web version of the Wall called the HALL of HONOR where you will also find a link to send us your information! USA has followed our lead and also has a Wall of Honor online!
SEND US YOUR NEWS SO WE CAN KEEP EVERYONE CURRENT ON THE LATEST TRIUMPHS, JOYS AND SORROWS. We are first and foremost family and want to be there to lend support and fellowship. Please use the contact us button to send along your updates!
Southern California Gordons evacuated away from fires in San Diego. Drs. Michael and Eva LaMar were evacuated away from the raging fires and made their way to fellow Gordon Dr. Ian Kelly of Bydand Forever. They are now back at home safe. Tom Adams, SW Commissioner did not have to evacuate despite the dangerously close fire. Read Ian's note on the evacuation.
